Morgan State Interior Design Students Illuminate Their Knowledge with Inter Lux Visit
Interior Design students from Morgan State University recently gained valuable industry insights during a visit to Inter Lux, a prominent local lighting manufacturer and studio. The students from INTD 302 Interior Design Studio III, led by Assistant Professor Tanya Shanklin, explored the world of LED-only custom lighting, a hallmark of Inter Lux.
The visit, guided by Inter Lux President Mr. Ted Chappell, offered a comprehensive look at the company's operations, including their administrative offices, manufacturing warehouse, and interactive lighting studio. Students learned about lighting applications, installation techniques, and various lighting types and their uses.
The learning experience was further enriched by a presentation from Inter Lux CEO Mark DeVries, who showcased the company's diverse lighting brands, including White Goods, LineLight, Sattler, and Stone. Inter Lux boasts an impressive portfolio of projects both nationally and internationally, including Athens International Airport, BWI Airport Concourse D, and even projects in Edinburgh, Scotland. Notably, Inter Lux has also contributed to projects at Morgan State University itself.
The partnership with Inter Lux is significant for Morgan's Interior Design program, which was recently awarded the prestigious Nuckolls Fund for Light Education grant. This collaboration, partly highlighted in the grant submission, will include ongoing student tours of Inter Lux's facility and the development of a certificate program in Lighting Education.
