What is Home U?

Home U is a groundbreaking impact program to foster emerging talent in the Home Industry. In partnership with Morgan State University (MSU) and Black Interior Designers Inc. (BID), we will deliver scholarships, immersive learning expereinces and career access across Home Industry fields, beginning with MSU interior design students. 

What is the Home Industry, and what aspects does Home U focus on? 

The Home Industry includes fields like interior design, architecture, real estate, and appraisal professions that shape how we live in, build, and value our homes. Home U programming at launch is focused on empowering and investing in emerging talent, specifically those interested in interior design. 

What does the program include for students?

  • A $3,000 scholarship for each semester they're enrolled in the program (up to two semesters) to be distributed to the student via the MSU Foundation.
  • Masterclasses with expert designers.
  • Mentorships with a professional from the BID network for 1:1 feedback, support, and career advice.
  • Career preparations, such as portfolio development. 
  • Real-world industry experience through internships or shadowing.
  • A final project.

Who is eligible to apply for Home U?

Home U is open to students at Morgan State University, specifically juniors and seniors in the Interior Design and Architecture and Environmental Design (AREN) programs. Related disciplines may be considered, but must demonstrate relevant experience or coursework.   

Can I still apply to be a Home U Scholar? 

Applications for the Home U Scholars Fall cohort have closed. To learn more about the program, contact the Morgan State University Interior Design Department or speak with your faculty advisor. 

How can I get involved as a mentor or program supporter?

Recruitment for mentors begins in Fall 2025. Professionals can express interest by contacting BID at info@blackinteriordesignersnetwork.com

Can companies or design firms host students? 

Yes! If you're interested in hosting a student for a visit or short-term project, reach out through your BID or MSU contact.
