Student Health Insurance Waiver

Morgan State University is pleased to offer our students and their families a Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) through United Healthcare that complies with the student insurance requirements under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act at an affordable premium.

IMPORTANT: If you have out-of-state Medicaid, please review the information on the Medicaid Waiver Request page before attempting to waive the Student Health Insurance for the Fall 2024-Spring 2025 semesters. If you are an Out-Of-State student (does not reside in Maryland) and you have Medicaid, your insurance coverage is not accepted in the State of Maryland. Therefore, you will be responsible for paying out of pocket for ALL healthcare services (primary care, mental health, emergency medical services, specialty care, prescriptions, etc) in the State of Maryland.

We recommend ALL Out-Of-State students who are insured through Medicaid, enroll in the Student Health Insurance Plan through United Healthcare. By enrolling in the Student Health Insurance Plan, students will be insured and receive benefits throughout the United States. Additionally, the student can receive healthcare services in the University Health Center.

Fall 2024-Spring 2024 Student Health Insurance Waiver

All full-time undergraduate students taking 12 or more credit hours, J-1 Visa Exchange students and scholars, and CICS students are automatically enrolled and billed each semester for the SHIP. Students who have comparable health insurance coverage, are required to waive out of the student health insurance plan before the waiver deadline.

All Full-Time Undergraduate Students that have not successfully completed the Fall 2024-Spring 2025 Student Health Insurance Waiver during the waiver eligibility period will automatically be enrolled in the plan and the Student Health Insurance charge will remain on their student bill for the Fall 2024 and Spring 2025 semesters.
