Lab Services Screening & Testing

Lab Services

We have a small office lab where we are able to perform simple tests such as: rapid strep, flu and mono tests, urinalysis, pregnancy tests, blood tests for diabetes and anemia. Lab tests that we cannot perform in the University Health Center are sent to an accredited private laboratory. We have qualified nurses who can draw blood samples and prepare specimens to be sent to the outside labs. Tests sent to 3rd party labs are subject to your plans in-network benefits. Copays, deductibles, and coinsurance payments are the patient's responsiblity.  All test requires an appointment call 443-885-3236.

STD Screening

Students with SHIP are able to receive once yearly STD testing without charge. The Health Center will only do STD testing if a student presents with symptoms of a given STD. If student is asymptomatic and wishes STD testing they are then referred to the Baltimore City Health Department where STD testing is provided free of charge. Brochures with this information are available at the health center or at the Baltimore City Health Department. Benefits for Chlamydia and Human Papillomavirus Screening Tests Benefits will be paid the same as any other Sickness for the following screening tests for Insured Persons:

One annual routine Chlamydia Screening Test for: a) Women who are under the age of 20 years if they are sexually active, and at least 20 years old if they have multiple risk factors; and men who have Multiple Risk Factors.

“Chlamydia screening test” means any laboratory test that: Specifically detects for infection by one or more agents of chlamydia trachomatis; and is approved for this purpose by the federal Food and Drug Administration. “Multiple risk factors” means having a prior history of a sexually transmitted disease, new or multiple sex partners, inconsistent use of barrier contraceptives, or cervical ectopic.

Human Papillomavirus Screening Test at the testing intervals outlined in the recommendations for cervical cytology screening developed by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. “Human papillomavirus screening test” means any laboratory test that: Specifically detects for infection by one or more agents of the human papillomavirus; and is approved for this purpose by the Federal Food and Drug Administration. Benefits shall be subject to all Deductible, co-payment, coinsurance, limitations, or any other provisions of this Plan.
