Aristotle said, “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence then, is not an act, but a habit.”

Here at Morgan State University, we believe that by investing in our employees, we achieve excellence as a natural extension of regularly practiced good habits. Investment in our employees does more than prepare them for their work; it builds high-level competencies which are then transferred to any job at hand. At MSU, our people are our most valuable asset, and just as financial investors believe that investing in sound entities will provide solid returns, we know that investing in our employees will gather returns and benefits that cannot be measured uni-dimensionally.

Our mission statement bespeaks the commitment to both our employees and student body who together play vital roles in the nurturing of our community that forms a core from which exemplary achievement extends outward. Providing employee learning and leadership development opportunities does more than inspire such achievement, it enhances job satisfaction, boosts productivity, and improves employee retention. Win-win is the core philosophy at MSU, and we recognize that equipping employees with new skills and knowledge increases their potential for advancement.

Perhaps there is no mystery why MSU is the only university to have its entire campus designated as a National Treasure by the National Trust for Historic Preservation. More than just the campus, our national treasure is our employees, and when other organizations recognize this most noteworthy fact, they too will see what treasure comes from investing in employee learning and development.
