Welcome to the Cognitive and Neurodiversity AI Lab (CoNA Lab) at the Center for Equitable AI & Machine Learning Systems at Morgan State University.

At the CoNA Lab, we endeavor to push the boundaries of artificial intelligence and explore the intersection of cognitive science and neurodiversity. Our multidisciplinary team of AI researchers, neuroscientists, psychologists, and engineers collaboratively investigate the complexities of human cognition and neurobiology, with a particular focus on understanding and embracing neurodiversity.

The CoNA Lab is dedicated to fostering an inclusive research environment that values the unique perspectives and talents of individuals. We recognize that neurodiverse individuals possess distinct cognitive profiles and abilities, which can contribute to groundbreaking advancements in AI and machine learning.

Through our research, we aim to create innovations in artificial intelligence, and to develop technologies that are more cognitively diverse, accommodating, and equitable. By leveraging insights from interdisciplinary studies, we strive to enhance the performance, adaptability, and ethical considerations of AI systems.

Our research areas encompass a wide range of topics:

  • Cognitive modeling and neural architectures: Investigating novel AI models inspired by human cognition and neurobiology.
  • Explainable AI and transparency: Developing methods to enhance the interpretability and explainability of AI systems, enabling better understanding and trust.
  • Assistive technologies and personalized AI: Designing AI solutions to support neurodiverse individuals, tailored to their unique needs and preferences.
  • Ethical considerations in AI development: Exploring the ethical implications of AI technologies and ensuring the fair and responsible deployment of AI systems.
  • Human-AI collaboration: Examining how AI can collaborate effectively with humans, capitalizing on the strengths of both and promoting synergy.

Collaborations with academia, industry, and members of the neurodiverse community will assist us in bridging the gap between theoretical research and real-world applications. By fostering diversity and inclusion, we believe that AI can better serve the needs of all individuals, regardless of their cognitive profiles.

We welcome students, researchers, and partners who share our passion for advancing AI and embracing neurodiversity. Join us in shaping the future of AI research and its transformative impact on society.

Explore the CoNA Lab and be a part of the innovation that lies at the intersection of AI and neurodiversity.
