Under the auspices of the Department of English and Language Arts, the mission of the Morgan State University Writing Center is to support undergraduate and graduate students from all academic disciplines to become more effective and confident writers and communicators.

The Morgan State Writing Center provides a wide variety of services to all members of the MSU community: undergraduate students, graduate students, online students, faculty, and staff.

Our tutors are trained to give you individualized attention regarding any type of writing assignment. From first-year students to graduate students to faculty, and from composition papers to theses to PowerPoints, we can help make your writing shine! Tutorials are free, and it's easy to make an appointment. Just email us at writingcenter@morgan.edu  Typical tutoring sessions may help you with one or more of the following:

  • Understanding  assignment prompts
  • Identifying and addressing the needs of your audience
  • Developing and organizing
  • Finding good sources and avoiding plagiarism
  • Revising your writing
  • Solving grammatical problems

Before an appointment, here's some steps you should take

First, schedule an appointment in advance of your assignment's due date. Second, think about what you need from a session and make some notes.  For example, list specific questions you have about your paper. Third, bring with you a copy of your assignment sheet and any related notes, handouts, articles, or textbooks. Fourth, bring any other writing you may have connected to the assignment, like drafts, notes, free writing, journal entries, or peer review comments.

Although we accept walk-ins, appointments are preferred.  Schedule a one-on-one tutorial session by sending an email to writingcenter@morgan.edu with your availability.
