Writing Center Workshops

Invite the Writing Center into Your Course!

The Writing Center is open whenever classes are in session. This includes summer and winter session.

In addition to our regular service of one-to-one consultations, we will provide specialized in-class workshops.

You have two choices for Writing Center workshops: Standard Workshops, and Integrated Workshops:

Standard Workshops

During these hour-long workshops, Writing Center staff and/or tutors visit your classroom and give a presentation over a writing-related topic. Topics can include:

  • Doing Research
  • Citation and Avoiding Plagiarism
  • Developing and Thesis Statement and Organizing Your Paper
  • Editing and Proofreading
  • PowerPoints and Visual Rhetoric

These workshops all involve strong interactive components and are generally well-received.

Integrated Workshops

We strongly encourage you to consider an integrated workshop this winter session!

Lately, the Writing Center has been moving toward a more specialized model of workshops, one that works with instructors to integrate more fully into your classrooms.

For example, instead of talking about research in general, we can discuss research as it relates to a particular assignment in your class. We can also provide additional services such as specialized group tutoring within the the Writing Center, or follow-up peer review facilitation before the assignment is due.

If you are interested in scheduling a workshop, please email Dr. Tristan Abbott (tristan.abbott@morgan.edu) detailing the following:
The course(s) you are teaching
The nature of the workshop you prefer (traditional vs. more integrated)
The topic(s) you'd like us to cover
The dates/times you want to fill
