What do you like the most about your profession?

Engaging with students on all levels (i.e. K-12, undergraduate and graduate) and providing insight into a future that they sometimes doubt they can achieve.

How did the Mitchell SOE prepare you for your career?

The SOE provided me a well-rounded curriculum, research experiences and networking opportunities that helped me narrow my focus. Those experiences helped guide my career choices and ultimately helped me begin to carve out my path. Consistent engagement with STEM professionals who shared the same background and ethnicity provided me confidence to know that I too could pursue the engineering path and become successful.

Who, from the SOE, had the most impact on you during your time there, and how have they impacted you?

Dr. Pamela Leigh-Mack, Dr. Kemi Ladeji-Osias, Dr. Craig Scott and Dr. Kofi Nyarko have poured into me at some stage of my matriculation and encouraged me to achieve more. They have all helped to increase my confidence to pursue STEM at a higher level and pushed me when I doubted my abilities. I owe a debt of gratitude to them all for their belief in me and who I could become.

What advice would you give the current SOE student?

Pursue every opportunity to better yourself and excel in your field. If someone is willing to invest in your future and sees your potential, you owe it to yourself to give it a try. You have plenty of time to figure out where you fit in. Wherever you end up, give it all that you have and be the best at what you do.

Anything else you'd like to add?

GIVE BACK, GIVE BACK, GIVE BACK! Current students need to see that those who came before them are thriving in STEM. This will inspire students and give them a sense of hope. It will encourage them to continue on their journey because they get to see actual representations of all that they can become.
