Types of Programs

Federal Work-Study (FWS)-  is a federally funded program that currently provides on or off-campus part-time employment to undergraduate or graduate students. FWS may be used to meet the expenses related to your education and it encourages FWS recipients to participate in community service activities.

America Challenges- is a literacy program that employs FWS students as reading & math tutors in preschools, elementary schools, and middle schools, as well as in a Family Literacy Program.

Job Location & Development - is designed to improve the quality of life for community residents in local nonprofit, governmental, and community-based organizations.

Below are the current positions through the Federal Workstudy program. 

Career Ambassador

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: assist students with the use of products, promote resources, events, and office support

Program: Federal Workstudy Position On-Campus

Computer Laboratory Assistant

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: Provide assistance to lab users. Monitor sign-in journals, end-user access to equipment and perform other duties as assigned by the ESR Library IT supervisor.

Fitness Assistant

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: Monitor gym area and enforce gym rules when needed.  Duties may vary depending on the needs of the hiring department.

Lab Assistant

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: Provide technical support in the lab and facilities. Duties may vary depending on the needs of the hiring department.

Library Technical Services Assistant

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: Book repairing, updating system item information, materials processing, and relevant work assigned by the supervisor

Office Assistant

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: Greet visitors, take calls, deliver mailing. Use basic office equipment.  Maintain files or supply inventories.  Perform basic data entry. Duties may vary depending on the needs of the hiring department.

Program: Federal Workstudy Position On-Campus

Site Coordinator

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: Performing one-on-one work with individual students, small work groups, or class activities. Collaborate with  teachers, and after- school program coordinators to assess students’ needs. Ensure all timesheets are completed by tutors and are properly submitted. Duties may vary depending on the needs of the site.

Program: America Challenges Off-Campus

Student Ambassador

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: conduct campus tours with high school students. Represent the department and university during campus activities.  Duties may vary depending on the needs of the hiring department.

Supply/Inventory Clerk

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: compile hand receipts, maintain inventory, and assist in the maintenance of the supply room. Answer phones. Duties may vary depending on the needs of the hiring department.

Program: Federal Workstudy Position On-Campus

Tutor

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: Working directly with Kindergarten through Eighth-grade students to improve their reading and math proficiency skills. Perform one-on-one work with individual students, small workgroups, and/or class activities.  Collaborate with teachers, and after-school program coordinators to assess students’ needs. Submit timesheets for tutors.   Duties may vary depending on the needs of the department
