Office of Student Success & Retention
Financial Literacy Program
The Office of Student Success and Retention's Financial Literacy Program (FLP) aims to provide students with the knowledge and skills they will need to be financially successful in adult life. It began with the Office of Student Success and Retention (OSSR) obtaining an AmeriCorps*VISTA grant to fund the program. The program partners with PNC Bank to provide financial literacy workshops for students at Morgan State University every semester. The FLP partners with the Athletics Department, and three of the four workshops every semester are provided to Morgan State athletic teams. The last workshop in each semester is open to the entire student population. The program is usually kicked-off in October of each academic year with an introductory symposium; Dr. DeForest Soaries, Jr., author of dfree ® Breaking Free From Financial Slavery (http://mydfree.org), has been the featured keynote speaker for the past several years.
