Academic Advising Mission

Academic advising is a critical component of the educational experience at Morgan State University. It is an intentional, collaborative, and ongoing partnership between students and the University. Through this partnership, we assist students in developing, implementing, and achieving their educational, personal, and career goals while ensuring student persistence and timely graduation. We pride ourselves on fostering an engaging learning and mentoring relationship which supports the mutual trust and respect of both parties.

Roles and Responsibilities of Academic Advisors

The primary responsibility of an academic advisor is to guide students in making wise selections of course offerings, paying careful attention to the University's policies and degree requirements. An effective advisor should also assist students in identifying available internal and external resources that will positively impact their Morgan experience.

The Structure of Academic Advising at Morgan State University

CASA freshmen and sophomores are advised by staff under the Center for Academic Success and Achievement (CASA) until specific requirements have been met. After meeting those requirements, students transition to their central departments for advisement.

CASA Freshman and Sophomore Transition Criteria

A student transitions to his/her faculty advisor when the student has achieved all of the following:

• 2.0 cumulative grade
• At least 60 credit hours earned
• Declared a major
