Morgan State Unveils New Residence Hall Amid Arrival of Nearly 9,000 Students
Morgan State University is projecting its largest enrollment in history, with nearly 9,000 students. It is a trend they've been noticing for the past decade, and it turns out the spike is presenting a set of challenges. With a growing student body, it made sense to add more beds on campus and to do it sooner rather than later, and that explains why there's a new residence hall opening up this fall.
Meet the Founding Dean of the Proposed Medical School at Morgan State University
The Maryland College of Osteopathic Medicine (proposed) at Morgan State University (MSU) “is in the applicant stage of accreditation, known as the “initial” stage,” according to information provided to The Baltimore Times. The future campus site would be located at the Montebello Complex area if the proposed medical school gets the greenlight. The current building will be demolished, and a new building will be constructed. Investment commitments for the project have reportedly reached $18.5 million.

How Morgan State, Coppin State Will Use First Portion of New State Funding for HBCUs
Baltimore's two historically Black universities have both received the first batch of new funding they are slated to receive as part of a lawsuit settlement and plan to use the money to hire more than 50 new faculty members and expand marketing efforts. Morgan State University and Coppin State University received a combined $20.8 million in fiscal year 2023 from the settlement with the state.
Here’s How — And Why — Morgan State is Trying to Become the Country’s Only R1 HBCU
What separates the run-of-the-mill research institutions from the world’s top research universities? The answer: R1 status, which can mark a difference of a billion dollars in grants and federal funding. Only 3.7% of the nearly 4,000 US colleges and universities are classified R1. None of these are historically Black colleges or universities (HBCUs). Baltimore’s own Morgan State University is one of the many HBCUs seeking to change that.
