My Life’s Trajectory - Ericca Blake Morgan, MPA, LMSW Alum 2017
My name is Ericca Blake Morgan, and I graduated from Morgan State University in May 2017. After working in Government for several years in various administrative capacities, I decided to pursue a master’s in social work. While working in government, I realized that we are all “social workers,” although many are called public servants or human service workers. I worked at the Housing Authority of Baltimore City (HABC), providing safe, sanitary, and decent housing to Baltimore’s low to moderate-income families. In this role, I also advocated on Capitol Hill for funding for programs that would help residents to move from dependency to self-sufficiency.
Bobby Marvin Holmes – LMSW, Alum 2019 Father, Husband, Social Worker, Founder of Son of a Dream. #sonofadream #reflectionofus
My matriculation to Morgan State University’s School of Social Work was about preparing myself to make a greater impact. Years prior, I worked as a paraprofessional working with Black boys and their families throughout Baltimore City in predominantly urban communities. This experience helped me to develop insight into their challenges and strengths. I knew Morgan would give me the necessary tools to be successful as a social worker. However, I did not know this experience would grant me the opportunity to grow as a scholar and advocate.

A Baltimore Village Helped Get this Singer to the Metropolitan Opera
On July 27, 2013, Morgan State University alum Daniel Rich posted this on Facebook: “I just want to sing for the rest of my life!!!” His protective circle extends beyond his neighbors to include educators from his first grade teacher Tracey Chester at Liberty Elementary and his high school choir director Linda Hall at City College to his professors at Morgan State University, from which he graduated in 2017. Rich considers Vincent Stringer, the former director of vocal studies and the opera program at Morgan, to be his “musical dad” and his successor, Marquita Lister, to be his “musical mom.”
