Department of Fine & Performing Arts

Message from the Department Chairperson

Eric ConwayGreetings and welcome to Morgan State University's Fine and Performing Arts Department!

Our department is made up of three different majors which include Fine Art also known as Visual Arts, Music and Theater Arts. I am continually astounded with the talent that Morgan State University attracts and this especially includes the expertise of our department faculty.

Over the years, I've often said that, despite the size of our department of about 100 students, our graduates have gone on to do more in the professional field of fine and performing arts than students who have attended larger schools of music or international conservatories.

Currently, we have at least 7 alumni singing in the most famous opera house in the world, the New York Metropolitan Opera Company. Our graduates are pursuing careers as music educators and touring the world as musicians, artists, and members of respected ensembles such as the U.S. Navy Band. The works of our Fine Art students are often compared to the so-called professional schools in Baltimore like the Mike Marin Institute College of Art. A degree from our theater program will arm you with tools to become a professional performer as our graduates frequently perform on tour nationally and internationally with established and self-made theatre companies as well as reoccurring roles on national television series.

We have a world-class faculty that cares deeply for students. I am excited that you have discovered this National Treasure and are considering the next phase of your academic development with us. I submit to you that you will not find a better educational value in the state of Maryland, or even the entire country than Morgan State University.

Regards,
Dr. Eric Conway
