UCLA GRADUATE SCHOOL EXPLORATION FIELD TRIP
Explore your future at one of the nation’s top research institutions! The UCLA Graduate School Exploration Field Trip, sponsored by the Morgan State University Office of Undergraduate Research, offers selected undergraduate students a unique opportunity to visit the University of California, Los Angeles and learn firsthand about its diverse Ph.D. programs across disciplines. This immersive experience includes campus tours, meetings with graduate program representatives, and engagement with current graduate students. Whether you’re interested in the sciences, humanities, education, engineering, or the arts, this trip is designed to help you envision yourself as a competitive applicant and future scholar. Open to highly motivated students who are seriously considering doctoral study, this fully funded trip includes structured pre- and post-trip activities to support your graduate school journey. Apply now and take the next step toward achieving your academic and professional goals!
Students must commit to the following:
Pre-Trip Activities (Mandatory)

1. Pre-Trip Orientation Session |
Overview of trip logistics, expectations, and professional conduct guidelines. |
|
2. UCLA Department Research Assignment |
Students select one UCLA department of interest and submit a brief write-up on program offerings, faculty research, and fit. |
|
3. Resume or CV Review Session |
Professional development activity where students update and polish their academic resume. |
|
4. Professional Etiquette Training |
Session on campus visit etiquette, networking, email communication, and dress code. |
Post Trip Activities (Mandatory)

Activity |
Description |

1. Post-Trip Reflection Essay |
Students reflect on what they learned, how the trip shaped their academic goals, and steps they plan to take toward graduate study. |
|
2. Graduate School Action Plan |
Each student will draft a personalized plan outlining short- and long-term steps toward graduate school applications. |
|
3. Small Group Debrief Meeting |
Share experiences and key takeaways in a discussion led by OUR staff. Also, complete evaluation survey. |
|
4. Graduate Program Contact Log |
Students submit a list of UCLA faculty or program staff they engaged with and any follow-up communications. |
