Principal Investigator Handbooks

These Principal Investigator's Handbooks have been written to assist Morgan State University faculty and employees with the development of proposals for sponsored projects and to manage their awards.

  • PI Handbook 1: General Principles provides an overview of sponsored programs lifecycle and overarching compliance principles. This is recommended for all PIs and research support staff

  • PI Handbook 2: Budget Preparation walks you through the process of creating and managing a budget for a sponsored project with details and samples.

  • PI Handbook 3: Grant-Related Processes walks you through each step of the Pre-Award and Post-Award process of managing a sponsored award at MSU. This handbook tells you who does what and when, in order to manage sponsored projects more easily.

  • PI Handbook 4: Research Facilities & Resources provides an overview of the research capabilities and resources at MSU, including major research centers, and detailed reports of facilities, equipment, libraries, etc.

  • PI Handbook 5: Policies & Guidelines puts in one document all the relevant research-related policies and guidelines at MSU, including Conflicts of Interest, Misconduct in Academic Research, Export Control, and Cost Sharing, among others.
