HBCU Aims to Achieve its Goal of Enrolling 10,000 Students Well Ahead of Schedule
Morgan State University has announced historic enrollment figures for a second consecutive year. For more than a decade, the university’s student enrollment has steadily grown, culminating in record-breaking highs of 8,469 in 2021 and 9,101 in 2022. University officials point to a significant increase in transfer and out-of-state students.
Striving for the ‘Gold Standard’
Leaders of historically Black colleges and universities have been working to achieve Research-1 status in recent years, the coveted Carnegie Foundation classification reserved for doctoral universities that demonstrate a certain level of research prowess. No HBCU currently holds such a classification, but administrators at some colleges say the designation feels increasingly attainable after years of striving and strategizing and a record year of securing research dollars.

Blackstone HBCU Grant to Morgan State Expected to Boost EDAC Efforts for 4 Years
Staff at Morgan State University’s Entrepreneurial Development and Assistance Center (EDAC) expect to expand awareness of their center to more students thanks to some new outside funding. The money comes from the Blackstone Charitable Foundation, which earlier this month announced the school among one of the latest beneficiaries of its LaunchPad program for supporting student entrepreneurship.
