Elevating Security: Morgan State’s Cutting-Edge Network Transformation with Palo Alto Networks

February 16, 2024

Morgan State University upgraded its cybersecurity infrastructure by replacing its legacy firewall with the Palo Alto Networks® Next-Generation Security Platform. This transition allowed the university to implement multiple next-generation firewalls to optimize core infrastructure, data center, and general network traffic, enhancing security while maintaining a user-friendly and integrated security framework.

Since implementing the platform, MSU has achieved more precise control over network traffic through application-based policies, simplifying deployment and reinforcing security measures. This strategic approach has enabled the university to provide network access to students and faculty while safeguarding critical assets and sensitive information. With a comprehensive view of the entire network security landscape, MSU can now proactively detect and respond to potential threats, whether originating from within or outside the university network.

The integration was completed on September 23rd, 2023, with a total investment of $2.939 million. This investment positions us to adopt a forward-thinking and strategic approach to fortify our security posture, aligning with evolving technologies and the evolving needs of our students, faculty, and staff.
