Morgan State University Summer Undergraduate Research
The summer undergraduate research program serves as an introduction to the research process and critical thinking skills, embedded within the on-campus, first full-time summer research experience. Students present their research findings in a poster presentation at the closing of the program held on July 31, 2019. This year we had 4 High School students and 6 MSU undergraduate students act near peer mentors. The program is sponsored by NIGMS RISE and LSAMP.

American Society of Human Genetics Conference
The American Society of Human Genetics (ASHG)Annual Meeting was held on October 15-19, 2019 in Houston, TX providing a forum for the presentation and discussion of cutting-edge science in all areas of human genetics. It provided venue to inform the general public of new scientific knowledge that is changing the way we diagnose and treat disease, understand human history, and unravel fundamental biologic mysteries. The conference had scientists from nearly 80 countries and more than 3,400 scientific presentations, workshops, and collaborative events.

4th Annual Excellence in Diversity Symposium at Johns Hopkins University
This symposium was held on November 7, 2019 and showcased the excellent work of underrepresented minority (URM) STEM scholars in the DC/Maryland/Virginia area scholars. The symposium focused on the outstanding achievements of scholars from underrepresented backgrounds and featured plenary sessions, scientific presentations, and networking opportunities.

Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minority Students (ABRCMS)
The Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minority Students (ABRCMS), is one of the largest communities of underrepresented minorities in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. The conference was held on November 13- 16, 2019 in Anaheim, CA with over 2,875 students from over 350 colleges and universities participate in poster and oral presentations in twelve STEM disciplines. We had 3 RISE scholars who attended and 2 who presented at this conference. The conferences gave our RISE scholars an opportunity to not only present their research findings, but also to enhance professional development skills, explore graduate schools, and network.
