Masters of Arts in Teaching Program (MAT)

The Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) program in the School of Education leads to a (7-12) teaching license in the following areas: Art, Biology, Chemistry, English, History, Mathematics, Music, Physical Education, and Physics. The MAT program at Morgan State University meets MSDE teacher licensure program requirements. 

Eligibility
Applicants must hold a bachelor's degree in Art, Biology, Chemistry, English, HIstory, Mathematics, Music, Physical Education, or Physics. Or a bachelor's degree in another field with a minimum of 24 credit hours in the intended teaching content area. Applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale in their undergraduate degree. GPA 2.50 is eligible for conditional admission.

Dual Degree in Master of Arts in Teaching

What is the Dual Degree Program
 5-year B.S./ B.A. + MAT program
 Integrates both graduate work and undergraduate experience
 Allows candidate to earn both a B.S./ B.A. and a MAT by completing 5 years of study

Students Should
 Consult the Morgan State University undergraduate catalog to generate a 4-year course plan for the program disciplines
(Art, Biology, Chemistry, English, History, Mathematics, Music, Physical Education, and Physics)
 Seek guidance and secure approval from Dr. Muhammad Sharif Uddin, Director of the Masters/Certification

Who is Eligible?
 Undergraduate candidates and degree completers in the following concentrations: Art, Biology, Chemistry, English, History, Mathematics, Music, Physical Education, and Physics

What are the admission requirements?
Candidates must:
 Earn and maintain a 3.0 (GPA) by the end of the sophomore year
 Meet the university requirements for junior status
 Contact the graduate director of the MAT program, Dr. Muhammad Sharif Uddin, prior to the end of the sophomore year
