Dr. Terra L. Bowen-Reid is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology at Morgan State University. She earned her Bachelor of Science and Master of Science Degrees in Community Psychology from Florida A&M University; and Ph.D. in Personality Psychology from Howard University. Dr. Bowen-Reid is committed to mentoring and the scholarly advancement of her students. Accordingly, Dr. Bowen-Reid has served as the Program Director/ Principal Investigator of the Minority Mental Health Research Scholars Program (MMHRSP), an undergraduate research training program funded by the National Institute of Mental Health. She is also a current mentor in the federally funded ASCEND program.

Her personal research interests are in the areas of African American mental health; racial health disparities; psychological and cardiovascular risk behaviors; and cancer prevention. She is a recognized expert in the field of African/Black Psychology in teaching and conducting research that provides an African-centered theoretical framework in understanding the human behaviors of people of African-descent. Bowen-Reid's most recent publications have appeared in the Handbook of African American Psychology, Journal of Black Psychology, Journal of Pan- African Studies, Journal of Urban Health and the Western Journal of Black Studies. Dr. Bowen-Reid is also actively involved on various University, professional, church and community service committees. Dr. Bowen-Reid has been the recipient of several notable awards, which includes receiving one of the highest alumni awards from Florida A&M University; whereby she was enshrined in the Gallery of Distinction in 2011. She has been recognized as one of top 20 psychology professors in the state of Maryland.
