Graduation

Congratulations on getting close to the finish line! Here are your next steps:

APPLY TO GRADUATE

Application Deadlines:

For Fall degree conferral: the last Friday in September

For Spring degree conferral: the last Friday in February

For Summer degree conferral: the second Friday in June (undergraduate only)

For Winter degree conferral: the second Friday in January (undergraduate only)


Confirm with your advisor that you have met or will meet all of the academic requirements. (If you have already applied for graduation in Websis during a previous semester, do NOT apply again. Please email graduation@morgan.edu and ask for your application to be rolled to the requested semester. Applying again through Websis will result in another fee that cannot be reversed).

Log on to your Student SelfService account, select the Student Records tab, and select the "Apply to Graduate" link.

Select the correct catalog term from the drop-down menu (NOT the semester of graduation). If you do not know this information, it can be found in Websis under "View Student Information" in the Student Records menu or in Degreeworks.

Select the curriculum for which you wish to be reviewed for graduation. Please select your current major. If you are a double major you must enter an application for each major.

Select the term for which you wish to be reviewed for graduation from the drop-down menu.

Follow the instructions in the application and click submit. You will see a confirmation screen when you submit the application. There is a $75 fee associated with this application. Pay for the application after you apply. Once the online application is complete, your account will automatically be charged the $75.00 graduation fee. This can be paid through our online payment system which can be found in your Websis account or at the Bursar's Cashier window in Tyler Hall.

THE CLEARANCE PROCESS

All communication will be sent to your MSU email account.

You can expect the following communication regarding your academic clearance for the Spring and Fall graduation cycles:

Fall Graduation Cycle:

  • Mid-October: Graduation Application Summary
  • Rolling Basis July through September: Preliminary Status (Audit of Undergraduate degree requirements)
  • December (after final grades are due): Official Status
  • Mid-January: News and Notes Regarding the Completion of your Degree 

Spring Graduation Cycle

  • Mid-October: Graduation Application Summary
  • Rolling Basis December through March: Preliminary Status (Audit of Undergraduate degree requirements)
  • May (after final grades are due): Official Status
  • Mid-June: News and Notes Regarding the Completion of your Degree

Ensure your name and mailing address is accurate. You can verify this information in Websis under "Personal Information". If you need to correct this information, please complete a Personal Information Update Form.

Ensure you have resolved all financial obligations to Morgan State University. You can view your account balance in Websis under the Student Records menu. Payments can be made online. For questions regarding financial balances, you may contact the Office of the Bursar at bursar@morgan.edu.

If you have received a Federal Direct Loan during your time at Morgan State University, you are required to complete an Exit Counseling session by the federal government. If you have not already done so, you can complete Exit Counseling online at studentloans.gov. If you are unsure of your Federal Loan recipient status during your time at Morgan, you can check online at nslds.ed.gov. You can also contact Morgan's Loan Office at msuloanoffice@morgan.edu for assistance.

COMMENCEMENT

Information regarding the commencement ceremony (rehearsal, cap and gown, regalia, pictures, etc) can be found at www.morgan.edu/commencement.

RECEIVING YOUR FINAL OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPT & DIPLOMA

For the final official transcript:

  • parchment screenshotFor all students, the official transcript will not update with degree awarded, honors, and cumulative GPA until after end of term processing on January 5, 2024, @ 5 pm. You may request an official transcript online. Each copy is $8. (*We will not offer refunds for transcripts ordered before this date and information was not updated.)
  • parchment screenshotEnsure you update your Parchment account for future access. If you use your MSU email address to login into Parchment, update the account to your personal email address. Once logged into Parchment, select my account to update information.

For the diploma:

  • Your account with MSU is paid in full.
  • Your active holds are resolved (where applicable).
  • Your exit interview is complete (where applicable).
  • Your name is correct.
  • Your mailing address is correct.

If all the above requirements have been met by the deadlines stated in the clearance emails, you can expect your diploma to be ordered on January 19, 2024. *

*If you resolved your obligations after the deadline which prohibited your diploma from being ordered, please email us directly at graduation@morgan.edu. Diplomas are ordered on the 3rd Friday of every month, and can take up to 6 weeks to be delivered.
