Some HBCU leaders are considering building satellite campuses to expand their reach and serve more Black students. Morgan State University got approval earlier this month to purchase a 59-acre property, a mile away from Morgan State’s main campus in East Baltimore, formerly the site of Lake Clifton High School.

An Interview with Mr. Melvin Miles

This week I had the distinct honor of sitting down with Mr. Melvin Miles (Past National President and Past Chairman of the Board of Trustees). Mr. Miles is currently in his 49th year serving as the Director of Bands at Morgan State University in Baltimore, Maryland. As Director of Bands, he conducts the Morgan State University Symphonic Winds, Concert Band, and Jazz Ensemble. He also serves as the director of “The Magnificent Marching Machine” and the “Bear Band”.

Black Enterprise Founder Earl Graves Sr. is a Proud Son of Morgan State University

Earl Graves Sr. was a shining example of Black success and leadership and those traits were cultivated during his time at Morgan State University. The Brooklyn native and champion of Black businesses was part of the 1957 graduating class and left a lasting impact on the Historically Black College and University (HBCU), one that continues to this day.

Former Lake Clifton High School Property to Become $1B ‘Innovation Park’ and Satellite Campus for Morgan State University

The Johns Hopkins University has a research park just north of its East Baltimore medical campus. The University of Maryland has a “biopark” west of its downtown Baltimore campus. Now the former Lake Clifton High School property will become a research-oriented “innovation park” and satellite campus for Morgan State University, president David Wilson told Baltimore’s Board of Estimates Wednesday.
