More Americans Have Gotten Mental Health Treatment Since 2019, Especially Younger Adults and Women

The percentage of adults getting mental health treatment increased from 19.2% in 2019 to 21.6% in 2021, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported in data published this month. However, the decline in non-Hispanic Black adults who received mental health treatment could be due to resiliency and the resumption of daily activities, said Sonya Clyburn, a licensed clinical psychologist and director of Morgan State University's counseling center.

Morgan State University students will perform at one of the most prestigious jazz festivals in the world. The university announced that its choir and jazz band ensemble was invited to perform at the 65th annual Monterey Jazz Festival, the longest continuously running jazz festival.

‘Do You Want to Be Great?’: Morgan’s Magnificent Marching Machine Gets First New Band Director in Almost 50 Years

On the second floor of the Morgan State University Murphy Fine Arts Center in late August, past the lockers and uniforms, the marching band’s version of Dua Lipa’s radio hit “Don’t Start Now” blared. Inside room 233, five rows of students played their instruments while four then-drum major candidates stood on the left pumping black batons in the air in tempo. A new director stood at the front of the room for the first time in nearly 50 years.

Morgan State Hosts 9th Annual STEM Day Extravaganza After 3-year Hiatus

Black Americans are grossly underrepresented in STEM fields, making up less than 10 percent of the professionals employed in those areas. Morgan State University professor Jonathan Wilson is one of the many academic leaders advocating to reverse that trend. He leads the Baltimore MUREP Aerospace Academy (BMAA) and is one of the key coordinators of the yearly STEM Day Extravaganza.
