Celebrating Homecoming 2025 Safely and Responsibly
Morgan Family,
Homecoming is one of our most cherished traditions—a time when students, alumni, faculty, staff, families, and friends come together to celebrate our shared pride in Morgan State University. It is a weeklong series of events that extends far beyond just one day, offering countless opportunities for connection, joy, and reflection on what it means to be part of the Morgan legacy.
As we look ahead to this year’s celebration, we do so with excitement but also with an important understanding of the challenges we have faced in recent years. Each year since 2021, our campus has experienced serious incidents during our Homecoming Week celebrations that have threatened the safety of our community. We cannot ignore this reality. Protecting the well-being of our students, alumni, faculty, staff, and guests is, and must always be, our top priority.
For this reason, along with the increased threats Morgan and other HBCUs have recently experienced, the University is implementing new safety measures during Homecoming 2025. All on-campus, homecoming-related activities will conclude at 5 p.m. on Homecoming Day. After this time, campus access will be limited to pre-approved essential personnel and residential students. Additionally, all academic buildings, offices, and service spaces will close at 3 p.m., and amplified sound—including music—should end at 5 p.m. We recognize this may cause disappointment, but these decisions were not made lightly. They are rooted in care, responsibility, and our commitment to ensuring that we try to mitigate harm to our community. Our aim is to return our celebrated Homecoming tradition to one that is safe and joyous for everyone.
Importantly, Homecoming is not diminished by this adjustment. In fact, it has grown. And we look forward to welcoming all of our alumni, from around the world, back home. This year’s festivities include a full week of events—from the parade, concerts, and reunions to the gala and the big game—along with exciting new additions such as the Homecoming Kick-off at Live Casino on Thursday evening, October 9th. Alumni, students, and friends will also find numerous opportunities to gather off-campus throughout the week and on Homecoming Day itself.
We encourage everyone to plan ahead, arrive on campus early on Homecoming Day to enjoy the day’s celebrations, and then afterward, continue the Homecoming spirit by enjoying the various gatherings happening off-campus.
In the weeks leading up, you will hear more about our plans for homecoming. We thank you for your understanding, support and partnership in making Homecoming 2025 both safe and memorable. Together, we want to ensure this tradition remains one that uplifts our community and honors the rich legacy of Morgan State University.
With gratitude,
Morgan State University Leadership
