A Race to the Top in Research
Today, Morgan State is one of a handful of HBCUs vying to join the ranks of Carnegie R1 universities. The coveted distinction, reserved for doctoral institutions with very high research activity, helps universities recruit top faculty members and scholars and win prestigious research grants. Among the 137 institutions classified as R1, not one is an HBCU.
Morgan State President and More Celebrate MLK’s Legacy
The Stewart Center’s Loeb Playhouse was adorned with glowing prisms and a sleek grand piano where Dr. David K. Wilson of Morgan University took the stage to speak on the Black experience. The night featured multiple musical performances, opening with a rendition of “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” a song historically known as the ‘Black National Anthem,’ by Purdue’s Black Voices and directed by James Dekle.
HGSE Remembers Charles Willie
“You can look around the country at institutions and districts that have successfully navigated the desegregation era, and so many attribute that to the work of Chuck Willie,” said Morgan State University President David Wilson, Ed.M.'84, Ed.D.'87, noting the unique impact that Willie had as a scholar who was truly able to reach practitioners.
Dr. David K. Wilson: AFRO Person of the Year 2021
This year David Wilson takes the AFRO Person of the Year title as the man who has held retention of freshmen at 70 % at Morgan for 10 years in a row, achieved record-breaking graduation rates and founded the School of Global Journalism and Communication at the historically Black university, founded in 1867.
