Division of Information Technology
Message from the CIO
It’s a tremendous honor to join Morgan State University as your new Vice President for Technology and Chief Information Officer. From the moment I stepped onto campus, I felt it – legacy, pride, and a powerful sense of possibility. Morgan is more than a university. It’s a movement. And I’m here to help build the digital engine that propels it forward.
I came to Morgan because I believe technology can be a force for innovation and lasting impact – and nowhere is that more urgently needed or more powerfully possible than here.
In this moment of rapid change and limitless innovation, technology must do more than support the mission – it must accelerate it. That’s why the Division of Information Technology must be laser-focused on five strategic imperatives that will empower every member of our Morgan community to thrive in a digital-first world:
1️⃣ Laying the Foundation for a Smarter Morgan
Modernizing Our Digital Core
We’re transforming our technology infrastructure to unlock agility, resilience, and operational excellence – from cloud-based ERP systems to next-gen digital identity platforms. These updates are more than technical – they’re transformational.
2️⃣ Igniting Intelligence: Morgan’s Ascent in AI
Fueling Our Journey to Becoming an AI Innovation Powerhouse
We are launching bold initiatives in research computing, intelligence analytics, and data-driven student success. Morgan will lead the national conversation on how AI empowers education, equity, and innovation.
3️⃣ Securing Trust in a Digital World
Strengthening Morgan’s Security Posture in an Advanced Landscape
In today’s landscape, cybersecurity is culture. We’re enhancing our defenses, elevating awareness, and building a resilient ecosystem that protects data, privacy and institutional integrity.
4️⃣ Driving Transformation from the Inside Out
Accelerating Digital Innovation Across the Enterprise
Transformation starts when we reimagine what’s possible – not just in IT, but in every classroom, office, and community we serve. We’re working side-by-side with campus partners to simplify the complex, spark creativity, and build a Morgan that moves faster, thinks bigger, and reaches further.
5️⃣ Reimagining the Way We Work
Restructuring IT to Better Serve the Morgan Mission
We’re aligning our organization to serve the enterprise at scale – with clearer roles, faster response, and a partner-first mindset that supports every student, faculty, and staff member across the Morgan community.
But this isn’t a solo mission – it’s a shared one. Together, we won’t just keep up with change – we will lead it. I want your ideas, feedback, and energy. Whether you’re a student innovator, a faculty researcher, a staff partner, or a community champion, you have a place in shaping the future we’re building. In the coming months, you’ll have opportunities to help shape our digital future – from cybersecurity initiatives to AI-powered student success programs.
Together, we will make Morgan a national model of what digital empowerment looks like when it’s grounded in purpose, led by vision, and powered by community.
Let’s get to work.
With appreciation and purpose,
Dr. Timothy C. Summers
