Morgan State University Expands Doctoral Offerings with Two New Ph.D. Concentrations in Education
This fall, the Department of Advanced Studies, Leadership, and Policy (DASLP) at Morgan State University proudly launches two new Ph.D. in Education concentrations: Comparative and International Education and Assessment, Evaluation, and Research. These programs reflect DASLP’s ongoing commitment to cultivating equity-focused, data-informed, and globally engaged educational leaders and scholars.
Both concentrations are housed within the department’s existing Ph.D. in Education program and are directed by Dr. Frim Ampaw, who also serves as Department Chair. “These programs reflect our commitment to global engagement and data-driven decision-making in education,” said Dr. Ampaw. “We are thrilled to expand opportunities for doctoral students to become leaders in these critical areas.”
To support this expansion, DASLP welcomes two newly hired tenure-track faculty members:
- Dr. Afiya Fredericks, a scholar of mindsets, STEM Education, and inclusive learning environments
- Dr. Pooya Almasi, a scholar of international education policy and mixed-methods research design
Together, these scholars will help shape the intellectual and practical development of DASLP Ph.D. students, preparing them to lead in a range of settings—from research universities and policy think tanks to ministries of education and school districts.
The Comparative and International Education concentration offers students the opportunity to critically examine educational systems, policies, and practices across national and cultural contexts. Students will explore global issues such as education for displaced populations, transnational policy transfer, and equity in international development.
The Assessment, Evaluation, and Research concentration provides advanced training in the design and use of educational research and evaluation tools to inform decision-making and improve learning environments. With a focus on culturally responsive and equitable methodologies, students are prepared to lead rigorous research that supports institutional effectiveness and student success.
Applications for the Fall 2026 cohort will open in August 2025. Prospective students are encouraged to express their interest early by completing this brief Interest Form.
