BIOGRAPHY:
Dr. Barrett Rosser is an Assistant Professor of Teacher Education and Professional Development at Morgan State University and research faculty with the National Center for the Elimination of Educational Disparities (NCEED). She is a proud HBCU alumna of North Carolina A&T State University and earned her Ed.D. in Reading, Writing, and Literacy from the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Rosser’s work has been recognized with awards from AERA, the Philadelphia Writing Project, and others, and supported by the Spencer Foundation, McDonnell Foundation, and NEH. Her scholarship is published in leading literacy and education journals and reflects a deep commitment to equity and justice in teaching and learning.
RESEARCH INTEREST(S);
Dr. Rosser’s research is grounded in Black Feminist Practitioner Research, a framework she developed that merges Black feminist theory with practitioner inquiry. She explores how Black girls use reading, writing, and dialogue in inquiry groups as practices of self-love, identity formation, and critical consciousness. She also works with teacher inquiry communities to study how collaborative reflection and writing improve literacy instruction and professional practice. Her scholarship extends into digital and archival literacies, exploring how writing in digital spaces and uncovering Black Philadelphia histories can reshape curriculum and teaching. Across these projects, she highlights inquiry as a collective practice of love, justice, and educational transformation.
