What to Bring

• Linens: regular length twin sheets, a light blanket and pillow, and a mattress pad/mattress cover
• Towels
• Toiletries and something to carry them
• Shower sandals
• Computer: access to the campus network is available in every room (one access point per resident)
• Rain gear: umbrella and poncho
• Telephone: there are two modular jacks per room
• Refrigerators (3.6 cubic ft. or smaller)
  Trash can
• Extra outlets (surge protectors)
• Cat-5 (ethernet) cable
• Fan
• Clothes hangers
• Alarm clock
• Study lamp: no halogen
• Iron: with auto shut-off
•  Laundry detergent
• Laundry bag
  Broom, mop, and cleaning supplies
•  Can opener
• Microwave
• Paper plates and plastic utensils
• Yaffa blocks / small shelves
• Flashlight with batteries
• Bicycle: bring a heavy-duty lock and register your bike with MSU Police when you arrive
• Stereo and television (TVs larger than 26 inches are not permitted in the residence halls)
• Room decor: You may add simple furnishings, curtains, and posters to your room, but you may not remove furniture, paint your room or alter it in any way.
• Musical instruments: there are many opportunities to express your musical creativity at MSU; however, we request that you don't play amplified instruments or drums in the residence halls. If you do, you'll be asked to ship them home.

What Not to Bring

The following items are not allowed in the residence halls.

• Cooking appliances (toaster ovens, hot plates, slow cookers, woks, grills, etc. are prohibited).
• Weapons, explosives, and fireworks 
• Candles and incense
• Drugs
• Illegal substances (drugs, alcohol, etc.) 
• Halogen lamps and octopus lamps 
• Personal satellite dishes 
• Waterbeds
• Darts and dartboards 
• Non-University air conditioners, ceiling fans, and other large appliances including washers/dryers 
• Space heaters 
• Pets, except approved fish 
• Family heirlooms or valuables
•  High-end electronics (TVs larger than 26 inches are not permitted in the residence halls. Your room really isn’t large enough for a 50” plasma television…trust us! And your neighbors will likely not appreciate the Bose surround sound either)
