Making History
Precedents in military research will be set within the next few months. The U.S. Air Force will establish its first University Affiliated Research Center (UARC), and for the first time a UARC will be located at an historically Black institution. Morgan State has two centers, the Cybersecurity Assurance and Policy (CAP) Center, which focuses on reverse engineering of Internet of Things (IoT) devices, and the recently launched Center of Equitable Artificial Intelligence & Machine Learning.

Morgan State University (MSU) is teaming up with Pfizer to get more minoritized populations into the field of medical development, and two Black women make up the fellowship’s inaugural class. Through the 2-year program, dubbed the Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) Fellowship in Vaccines Medical Development, participants will “gain invaluable training and networking opportunities to pursue a successful career in the biopharmaceutical industry.

Interns See Baltimore Police Department With ‘Fresh Eyes’ — And Suggest Wide-Ranging Reforms
During an internship with the Baltimore Police Department this summer, Morgan State University student Yasmine Bryant met the mother of a city homicide victim struggling with acute grief and growing frustration. At the completion of her 10-week internship, Bryant proposed a solution: Ask victims of Baltimore gun violence how their police department could serve them better. During a capstone presentation on the campus of Morgan State, she recommended conducting a survey to help the department strengthen its victim services unit.
