Building Beyond Boundaries: Morgan State University School of Social Work Celebrates Historic Doctoral Milestone
The Morgan State University School of Social Work celebrates a historic milestone with the graduation of its inaugural Doctor of Social Work (DSW) cohort alongside two PhD graduates, marking a significant advancement in doctoral social work education at a Historically Black Institution. This article highlights the School’s commitment to preparing socially conscious leaders equipped to address complex urban social challenges through advanced clinical practice, scholarship, leadership, and social justice engagement. Reflections from graduates underscore themes of transformation, accountability, resilience, and the responsibility to challenge inequitable systems while amplifying historically marginalized voices. The article also recognizes the visionary leadership that shaped the development of the DSW program and affirms the School’s ongoing role in advancing Black intellectual traditions, transformative leadership, and community-centered social work practice.
