School Segregation Today Presents Stark Reality Nearly 70 Years After Brown

When the U. S. Supreme Court outlawed segregated public schools on May 17, 1954, in a case we know as Brown v. Board of Education, many Blacks saw this as the dawn of a new day. It held the promise of barriers swiftly falling in all aspects of American life. Public education is even more segregated today than it was then notes Glenda Prime, Morgan State University dean of the School of Education and Urban Studies, which recently launched the National Center for the Elimination of Educational Disparity.
