PRNews Names Morgan State’s Peter Iwuh as ‘HBCU Student of the Year’
Strategic Communication Major Recognized During Social Impact Awards for Commitment to Diversity and Change
Morgan State University’s Peter Iwuh, a senior Strategic Communication major in the School of Global Journalism & Communication (SGJC), was named “HBCU Student of The Year.” The honor, presented at the PRNEWS Corporate Social Responsibility and Diversity Awards national competition held April 20, at the Ritz Carlton in Arlington, Virginia, was among the organization’s 2022 Most Impactful Communicators awards celebrating initiatives and professionals that support accountability, positive contributions to society and advocate for equity and inclusion.
Created by PRNEWS, the leading source and trusted voice within the communications and marketing community, the Social Impact Awards honor communicators who use their platforms to better their community and the global society at large. Recipients of this recognition include the campaigns, initiatives, professionals, teams, rising stars, and lifetime pioneers that are helping to usher in a diverse, equitable future and redefine organizations’ role in the fight for global change.
“This is such a big honor and lets me know all of us can have a huge impact right where we live promoting equity, inclusion, and excellence,” said Iwuh, a rising star in his own right.
Iwuh is an entrepreneur who founded his own Gen-Z-led creative agency Tykoon in May 2018. In addition to running Tykoon, Iwuh previously served as the College Marketing Representative of Baltimore at Sony Music Entertainment, a Facebook HBCU News Fellow at Cleveland.com, a PR Intern at Turner PR, and a social media intern at Solve advertising agency.
The HBCU Student of The Year award is one of approximately 40 social impact honors annually awarded by PRNEWS.

“It is really important to me that I use my skills to help create opportunities for others to thrive in communications fields,” said Iwuh. “The world desperately needs diverse talent to help PR, Marketing, and Adverting firms connect with the diverse communities they serve.”
Iwuh is slated to graduate this May during the Spring Commencement Exercises. He is considering attending graduate school or working for a global firm after graduation.
“I am really grateful I have some options to choose from, but after winning this awesome award, right now all I can think about is walking the commencement stage in a few days.”
