Dean M’bare N’gom Receives Honorary Professor of Literature and Translation Distinction from Universidad Ricardo Palma in Lima, Peru
Morgan State University’s James H. Gilliam, Jr. College of Liberal Arts (CLA) Dean M’bare N’gom, Ph.D., was appointed the distinction of Honorary Professor of Literature and Translation by Universidad Ricardo Palma (URP) in Lima, Peru.
Recognized for his academic leadership in literature and translation, Dr. N’gom was granted this honor by URP President, Dr. Iván Rodríguez Chávez. The University Council endorsed the President’s appointment by way of unanimous vote at a special awards ceremony held on International Translation Day in Lima where Dr. N’gom was presented with a ceremonial medal and diploma. The honoree and URP’s newest academic member, Dr. N’gom, addressed event attendees with a keynote entitled, “The African Writer and Translation.”
Dr. N’gom, professor of Spanish here at the National Treasure, has served within Morgan’s College of Liberal Arts in various capacities for more than 30 years before finally assuming deanship of the CLA permanently in 2017. He is a distinguished writer and published author of international texts spanning multiple languages including Spanish and French. During his tenure at Morgan, Dr. N’gom has been an instrumental advisor to the University’s Fulbright-Hays Project Abroad program overseeing research and teaching fellowships in Colombia, Ghana, Malaysia and Nigeria—to name a few. A well-documented globetrotter, Dr. N’gom has also had the privilege of serving as a visiting professor for universities worldwide. Morgan students benefit tremendously and shine brightly through dedicated expert faculty with such a demonstrated background as Dean N’gom.
