Celebrating the Success of Morgan’s 2025 Homecoming

by Morgan State U
October 13, 2025

Dear Morgan Family,

What an extraordinary Homecoming week we have shared together! Under the inspiring theme “Celebrating Our Legacy Together, in Unity and Joy,” Morgan State University once again demonstrated what it means to embody the True-Blue spirit of our National Treasure. From the opening church service to the closing candlelight memorial, every moment of this year’s Homecoming reminded us of the strength, unity, and pride that define our Morgan community.

Homecoming Week began with a stirring worship service at the University Chapel and concluded with the moving Interfaith Candlelight Memorial Service in the University Student Center Theater. In between, thousands of Bears—past, present, and future—came together to celebrate our heritage, achievements, and vibrant community.

The Mister and Miss Morgan State University Coronation filled Gilliam Concert Hall with nearly 2,000 attendees, where we witnessed the crowning of the 81st Ms. Morgan and the 38th Mr. Morgan. The event’s embrace of African and African American history and culture reminded us of the deep legacy that guides our future.

Our Homecoming Concert featuring Mariah the Scientist electrified the campus, while the inaugural Live the Legacy: MSU Homecoming Kickoff at Live! Casino set a new standard for excitement and participation. Friday’s activities—ranging from campus tours and my Fiscal Year 2026 update to the spirited pep rally and the elegant Homecoming Gala—showcased our community's incredible energy and enthusiasm.

Then came Homecoming Day, highlighted by our beloved parade and the sea of blue and orange that filled every corner of campus. Thousands of alumni, friends, and families returned home to reconnect and celebrate the Morgan experience. The Bears capped off the week in spectacular fashion with a 44–6 victory over Virginia University of Lynchburg—a win that reflected not only athletic excellence but also the unity and pride of the entire Morgan community. And the Magnificent Marching Machine’s halftime performance was punctuated by the ceremonial hand-off of the Tournament of Roses flag.

Homecoming

This year’s Homecoming also marked a milestone in campus safety and coordination. For the first time, our MSU Police Department hosted a unified command center within the Emergency Operations Center, bringing together city and state agencies under one roof. Their collaborative leadership ensured that public safety remained front and center while honoring the spirit and traditions of Homecoming. I am proud to share that no on-campus incidents or serious injuries were reported during the week’s festivities—an outcome that reflects both planning and vigilance.

Homecoming 2025My deepest gratitude goes to our MSU Police Department, under the leadership of Chief Lance Hatcher, and to BPD Major Tashania Brown for their partnership. I also thank every first responder—local and state—who worked tirelessly to ensure a safe and enjoyable celebration. Equally deserving of recognition are the dedicated members of Facilities Management and our housekeeping teams, who restored our campus to its pristine beauty after a week of continuous activity.

To all who played a role—students, faculty, staff, alumni, volunteers, and our extended Morgan family—thank you for your hard work, your cooperation, and your unwavering Morgan pride. Together, we have proven once again that when we unite as one Morgan, there is no limit to what we can achieve.

As we celebrate this success, let us remain vigilant and continue to make safety, respect, and community care integral to every event we host. Our Homecoming was not only a triumph of celebration but also a model for how unity and preparation can yield excellence.

With pride and gratitude,
