With the new year comes a new semester and a new opportunity for us to take stock of what’s important for the long-term success of our university and our students. Given the recent surges in positive COVID cases, the prevalence of new variants and an uptick in hospitalizations, we recognize that our collective success aligns with our capacity to limit the spread of the virus and safeguard our community as best we can.
As Enrollment Grows, Housing at Morgan State Fights to Keep Up with Demand
Morgan State University needs the new space now more than ever; when the university first developed its strategic housing plan in 2018, enrollment was remaining essentially steady, at an increase of about 1.0% per year. But more recently, enrollment at the Baltimore university is skyrocketing; 2021’s record-setting freshman class is around 80% larger than the previous years. Overall enrollment is up 11%.

As the current semester draws to a close and we set our attention on the new year and Spring 2022 semester, I am writing to give you a brief update on our plans for student housing going forward. Please know that enhancing our on- and off-campus housing stock is one of our top priorities at Morgan.

The latest addition to Morgan State University in Baltimore, a stacked stone hall that combines student and administrative services under one roof, is finally open to the public. Completed in September 2020 but only formally opened to the public this October, the Calvin and Tina Tyler Hall Student Services Centre shakes up programming at the historically black university with a series of stacked, alternating setbacks.
Zeke's Coffee, Morgan State University Brew Up a Relationship
Zeke's Coffee entices Morgan State University students with the bittersweet smell of coffee beans. The coffee roaster and shop, located right in Morgan's backyard, couldn't be more convenient for students looking for a shot of espresso or an Americano to jumpstart their day.

As the largest historically Black institution in Maryland, Baltimore’s Morgan State University provided higher education to Black people at a time when most institutions did not. Today, it is known for its historic roots and for its growing reputation as a prominent research hub.
