A historically black college in Maryland is growing — by enrolling Hispanic, white and international students
Morgan State University’s enrollment is on the upswing, a trend that’s bolstered by a rising number of non-African American students who are attending the historically black institution.
The student body has grown by 15 percent since 2006, from roughly 6,700 students to 7,700. The growth is largely because far more Hispanic, white and international students have chosen to enroll at Morgan, while the number of black students at the Northeast Baltimore campus has held relatively steady.
No one expects that only Catholic students will enroll at Notre Dame, Morgan president David Wilson says. So why should anyone be surprised that a historically black college or university would recruit students of other races?
