III. COURSE DESCRIPTIONS

INSS 687: STRATEGIC USES OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY IN MANAGEMENT (3.0 cr.)

This course examines contemporary information systems technology (IT) management. It provides a perspective on organizational issues in the application of IT. The course examines the radical changes in information technology that help managers harness the power of new technologies to enable them to make better decisions and more effectively manage their organizations and businesses, thereby enabling them to compete more effectively. Prerequisites: BUAD521 and INSS 567>PROJ 600- PROJECT, PROGRAM AND PORTFOLIO MANAGEMENT(3.0 cr.)

A problem-based, interdisciplinary course in project management skills and techniques needed to manage projects. This course uses practical applications to determine how projects are managed from start to finish. It includes a specific emphasis on planning and controlling, identification of needs, definition of requirements, project costing, scheduling, and resource allocation. The course introduces program and portfolio management in corporate and government settings. Software tools for planning and monitoring projects are introduced in this course.
