Celebrating Excellence: Lara Clash Receives GCLA Pride Award and Leadership Award
The College of Interdisciplinary and Continuing Studies (CICS) is proud to shine a spotlight on one of our standout student workers, Lara Clash, who will be honored with two prestigious awards at the James H. Gilliam Jr. College of Liberal Arts (GCLA) Gala Student Appreciation Awards Ceremony on May 6th. Lara has been selected to receive both the GCLA Pride Award and the Leadership Award, recognizing her exceptional dedication, leadership, and contributions to our college community.
A Passionate and Committed Student Worker
Lara, an English major with a focus on language and literature, joined CICS as a student worker in January 2023. Since then, she has become an invaluable member of our team, demonstrating an unwavering commitment to both her academic work and her role as a Student Worker. Lara’s dynamic energy and perspective as a Senior and non-traditional student bring a refreshing and unique approach to our daily operations.
Her role involves overseeing important tasks such as managing phone inquiries, scheduling, and ensuring the organization of our departmental resources. But Lara’s impact extends far beyond these responsibilities—she is also a vital voice in the IT Commission meetings, where she actively contributes to enhancing our college’s technological infrastructure.
Academic Achievements and Recognition
Lara’s academic accomplishments speak volumes about her dedication and passion for learning. She was recently inducted into the International English Honor Society, Sigma Tau Delta, Pi Upsilon Chapter, at Morgan State University. She also received recognition for her membership in the Gamma Pi Chapter of Alpha Sigma Lambda, a national honor society dedicated to non-traditional students who excel in higher education. These honors are a testament to Lara’s academic excellence and her ability to balance rigorous coursework with her role as a student worker.
A Student Who Goes Above and Beyond
Beyond her administrative contributions, Lara exemplifies the core values of CICS: providing personalized support for students. She consistently goes above and beyond to help prospective students navigate the enrollment process and ensure they feel welcomed into the academic community. Lara’s genuine commitment to student success and her proactive approach make her an essential resource for anyone seeking guidance as they begin their educational journey.
Honoring Lara’s Leadership and Pride
At the upcoming Gala Student Appreciation Awards Ceremony, Lara will be honored with the GCLA Pride Award for her outstanding contributions to our college community and the Leadership Award for her exceptional leadership qualities. These awards are a fitting tribute to Lara’s dedication, hard work, and passion for making a difference in the lives of those around her.
We congratulate Lara on these well-deserved recognitions and are incredibly proud to have her as a member of our team. Her journey is a shining example of what it means to embody the values of CICS—dedication to both personal growth and the success of others.
Join us in celebrating Lara’s achievements as she continues to inspire and uplift those around her.
