CICS on the Airwaves: Emma Minnis Shares the Mission of CICS on WEAA's Morgan’s News Hour
On a recent episode of Morgan’s News Hour on WEAA 88.9FM, Emma Minnis, Student Success Manager at the College of Interdisciplinary and Continuing Studies (CICS), joined host Deanna Neal to discuss how CICS is transforming the landscape of adult education at Morgan State University.
Minnis highlighted CICS as Morgan’s newest academic college, established specifically to meet the needs of adult learners including working professionals, veterans, parents, and returning students, who have some college credit but no degree. With a focus on flexibility, accessibility, and affordability, CICS provides a powerful opportunity for learners to return to school and finish what they started.
“We understand that coming back to school takes courage,” Minnis said. “At CICS, students are met with compassion, personalized advising, and a pathway that fits their life, not the other way around.”
She also introduced listeners to the Morgan Completes You initiative, which offers highly personalized advising, credit for prior learning and work experience, and accelerated pathways for degree completion. This initiative reflects Morgan’s larger mission of advancing educational equity, particularly in Baltimore and Black communities, by removing long-standing barriers that often keep adult learners from finishing their degrees.
Minnis emphasized that all CICS programs are fully online, allowing students to learn on their own terms while balancing personal and professional commitments. She also shared how CICS programs are designed to honor students’ lived experiences, offering coursework that is relevant, applied, and empowering.
“This is not just about getting a degree,” she added. “It’s about economic mobility, career advancement, and generational change.”
As the interview concluded, Minnis delivered a powerful message to those who may be thinking about returning to school:
“It’s never too late to finish what you started. Whether you left college 10 years ago or last year, we’re here to walk with you every step of the way.”
