Representation Matters
Over the past decade, some historically Black institutions have developed women’s and gender studies programs and embedded courses within the general education curricula. Morgan State introduced its program as a minor in 2009 at the behest of Dr. Burney J. Hollis, then dean of the College of Liberal Arts. Today, Dr. Adele Newson-Horst, professor of English at Morgan State University, serves as director of the women, gender, and sexuality (WGS) studies program.
American Airlines Director Daryl Dorsey Fosters Inclusion at Home and Abroad
If there’s a thread that runs through all of Daryl Dorsey’s work as director and senior attorney for American Airlines—managing international labor, employment and pension issues; participating in diversity, equity and inclusion subcommittees; and mentoring colleagues of color—it’s his commitment to making people feel welcomed. Dorsey attended Morgan State University, a historically Black college and university, and went on to the University of Baltimore Law School.
Advancements, Invention and Discovery Recognized at Morgan’s Fifth Annual Innovation of the Year Awards

In an effort to recognize outstanding examples of these values demonstrated each year on Morgan’s campus, the Office of Technology Transfer (OTT) hosts an annual Innovation of the Year awards ceremony.
A Black Artist’s Thurgood Marshall Replaces Portrait of a Likely Enslaver

Smith joined Morgan State University alum Ernest Shaw Jr., an artist and teacher from West Baltimore, to unveil a painting of a young Thurgood Marshall, also born in Baltimore.
