Dr. Yuhan Jiang, an Assistant Professor at Morgan State University in Baltimore, Maryland, holds joint appointments in the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department and the Center for Equitable Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Systems (CEAMLS). Prior to his current position, Dr. Jiang served as an Assistant Professor of Built Environment at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University (N.C. A&T) in Greensboro, North Carolina. During his tenure at N.C. A&T, he founded and directed the Center of Excellence for Innovation in Affordable Housing and Sustainable Communities, and he also made the signification contribution in establishing North Carolina’s 1st B.S. Artificial Intelligence program. Additionally, he held an Assistant Professor position at South Dakota State University in Brookings, South Dakota. Dr. Jiang received his Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and his M.S. and B.S. in Construction Management from Guangzhou University in China.

Dr. Jiang has received several accolades for his research and publications. He was awarded the Best Paper Award at the 2024 ASCE Construction Research Congress (CRC) Track of Computer Applications, Information Modeling, and Simulation. He received the 2022 Best Paper Award from the ASCE Journal of Architectural Engineering and was honored with the Editor’s Choice in the ASCE Journal of Construction Engineering and Management in April 2022. Additionally, Dr. Jiang has been recognized for his exceptional teaching and research contributions. He has received the 2024-25 N.C. A&T Junior Faculty Teaching Excellence Award, the 2024 Rookie Researcher of the Year Award, and the 2023 and 2024 N.C. A&T Provost’s Faculty Fellow. Furthermore, Dr. Jiang has served as a faculty mentor for the 2023-2025 Sci-Tech Week Innovation Challenge competitions. His mentorship led to student victories in the 1st and 3rd place, and the team was subsequently advanced to secure the 1st place in the 2024 AAAS HBCU Making and Innovation Showcase.

Dr. Jiang’s research focuses on Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Architecture, Engineering, Construction (AEC), and Operations, including Robotics and Sensors-based Data Collection, Computer Vision and Machine Learning-based Data Processing, and BIM, GIS, and AR/VR-based Data Visualization. Dr. Jiang has secured funding from various federal and state agencies, including the National Science Foundation (NSF), U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), North Carolina Collaboratory, and the University of North Carolina System Undergraduate Research Program. His research has made significant contributions to the integration of Drones, Artificial Intelligence, Reality Capture and Digital Twins in Construction Operations, Building and Infrastructural Facility Management. Notably, he has developed several algorithms, including Low–High Orthoimage Pairs-Based 3D Reconstruction, Fast-PGMED, Scan4Façade, and Scan2Drawing, and filed one U.S. utility patent application, No. 18/753,573, titled “Systems and Methods for Automated Sidewalk Deficiency Detection.” Furthermore, Dr. Jiang’s research extends to the field of Industrialized Construction Engineering Education, where he first developed the LEGO Cobot to facilitate affordable robotics and AI education for college and K-12 students, and first proposed the AI-driven On-Screen Interactive Guide (OSIG.AI) to promote adaptive and hands-on learning in engineering design software education.
