Education:

Dr. Liu is a sociologist who researches the impact of technological change, including AI and robotics, on the future of work, as well as economic and political sociology. His current research projects include:

  • The use of generative AI among faculty at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs)
  • The impact of generative AI on the legitimacy of higher education
  • The effects of financialization in companies on automation
  • The influence of aging societies on automation
  • How governments, colleges, and companies develop cybersecurity for transportation and build a workforce in AI
  • Political activism around universal basic income in response to technological changes in the labor market
  • The impact of related organizations on organizational inequality in hospitals

He received his PhD in sociology from Princeton University, his M.Sc. in comparative social policy from the University of Oxford, and his BA in sociology from the University of Pennsylvania. His work has been published in several journals, including the Journal of Black Studies, Journal of World-Systems Theory, tripleC, the American Journal of STEM Education, Socio-Economic Review, Social Forces, and Palgrave.
