Masters of Science in Accounting (MSA)

The Master of Science in Accounting (MSA) at Morgan State University is designed to support individuals seeking to become Certified Public Accountants (CPA) or advance their careers in accounting and financial management. 

This program prepares students with the technical knowledge and analytical skills needed for careers in public accounting, corporate finance, and investment banking, including areas such as mergers and acquisitions. The curriculum aligns with the educational requirements established by the state of Maryland for CPA licensure.

Program Overview

To earn the Master of Science in Accounting (MSA) degree, students must complete a minimum of 30 graduate-level credits. 

Students are expected to have prior exposure to foundational business and accounting concepts. These requirements may be satisfied through prior coursework at accredited institutions. In some cases, students may need to complete additional undergraduate courses to meet these prerequisites.

The program includes elective flexibility, allowing students to tailor their academic experience based on career goals. 

• Students may take one elective course from other graduate programs at Morgan State University, provided the course is offered at the 500 or 600 level. 
• With approval, students may also enroll in select courses at Johns Hopkins Carey Business School to further expand their academic and professional exposure. 

Admission Requirements

To be admitted to the MS in Accounting program, applicants must have:

• An undergraduate degree from a regionally accredited college or university with a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale.
• Conditional admission is available for applicants with GPAs between 2.75 and 3.0.
• A current score (score less than five years old) on the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) is also required.
• The GMAT is optional to all applicants.

• Official transcripts from all institutions attended.
• Three letters of recommendation.
• One-page personal statement outlining academic and professional goals.

International Students:

The School of Graduate Studies welcomes students that are not citizens of the United States but who have appropriate documentation from the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) (including the I94 form) verifying their legal residence and/or student status in the United States. International students must have transcripts from foreign institutions evaluated by an education credentialing service. International applicants must not send any foreign transcripts or certificates to the School of Graduate Studies. In addition, applicants from non English speaking countries must submit scores from the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). TOEFL scores are not required for applicants from the British Commonwealth, Australia, Canada, Great Britain, West Indies, New Zealand, South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya, and Tanzania.
