Tutorials
The primary purpose of the Morgan State University Writing Center is to support undergraduate and graduate students from all academic disciplines to become more effective and confident writers and communicators.
The Writing Center is located in the College of Liberal Arts. We provide a wide variety of services to all members of the MSU community: undergraduate students, graduate students, online students, faculty, and staff.
Our tutors are trained to give you individualized attention on any and all types of literacy or communication activities, including writing and reading assignments and audiovisual presentations. From first-year students, to graduate students to faculty, and from composition papers to theses to PowerPoint slides, we can help make your writing more impactful.
All sessions are free, and it's easy to make an appointment. We offer 30-minute and 45-minute appointments. Simply email us at writingcenter@morgan.edu or call campus extension 4205 to request an appointment.

- Brainstorming sessions: individual, pair and team sessions
- Sessions to help you speak professionally & confidently: tips
- Speech: speed/enunciation and pronunciation
- Presentation-based writing
- Mock pitch deck presentation preparation and delivery strategies
- Reading critically: support + strategies
- Assignment decoding assistance
- Help with locating credible sources and avoiding plagiarism
- Summarizing vs. analyzing sessions
- Logical fallacy identification & avoidance assistance sessions
- Research & paper planning, drafting, & editing tips focused on language, organization, content, and know-how regarding citation and spelling conventions and other expectations
- Feedback: content, organization, & language: business technical, literary, employment, & other genres of writing
- Editorial assistance, and

We recognize that oral, visual and textual or written communication are interconnected and that learning styles differ. As such, many writers need to hear and/or to see ideas in visual format in order to write what they intend to communicate and/or to effectively revise their work). Come see us! Before an appointment, here are some steps you should take:
1) Schedule an appointment in advance of your assignment's due date.
2) Think about what you need from a session. For example, list specific questions you have about your paper.
3) Email beforehand what you would like us to review and bring with you a copy of your assignment or be ready to show the prompt via Canvas and bring any related notes, handouts, articles, or textbooks.
4) Bring any other writing you may have connected to the assignment, such as drafts, notes, free writing, journal entries, or peer review comments.
Walk-ins are welcome.
Please note that appointments are preferred and highly advised.
