About the Student Organization

The Beginning of a Movement

In 2021, a first-year multimedia journalism student at Morgan State University took a bold step to confront the unique challenges undocumented students face in higher education. Drawing from personal experience and a deep sense of purpose, she launched a student-led movement committed to uplifting undocumented voices, expanding access to essential resources, and pushing for systemic change through advocacy.

What began as one student’s mission soon grew into a powerful force for awareness and action. The initiative quickly gained momentum, shining a spotlight on financial barriers, the absence of institutional support (at that time), and the structural hurdles many undocumented and mixed-status students encounter. Her leadership sparked campus-wide conversations, forged new alliances, and laid the groundwork for broader change—ultimately becoming a model for similar efforts at other HBCUs.

One of the most powerful moments came when she helped lead a student-organized march of more than 150 participants to Washington, D.C., calling for immigration reform and highlighting its critical importance within the Black community. The demonstration amplified the intersection of immigration justice and racial equity, leaving an enduring impression on those who participated and witnessed it.

Set to graduate in May 2025, this student’s legacy is already deeply rooted in Morgan’s history. Through her passion, courage, and perseverance, she created space for a new generation of student advocates to rise and continue the work. Her impact is not just remembered—it is actively shaping the future.

Students who wish to get involved, collaborate, or simply learn more are encouraged to reach out to the university’s support network for undocumented and mixed-status students. The initiative welcomes volunteers, partners, and all those passionate about making higher education more inclusive and equitable.

To ensure the safety and privacy of its members, the name of the group is not publicly shared. However, the spirit of its mission continues—grounded in advocacy, driven by hope, and sustained by a growing community of changemakers.
