Commencement Conduct Expectations and Consequences
PURPOSE OF GUIDELINES
Commencement is a formal academic ceremony honoring graduates, their families, and the legacy of Morgan State University. To preserve the dignity, safety, and integrity of the ceremony, all participants must follow established conduct expectations.
EXPECTATIONS FOR GRADUATES
Graduates are expected to maintain respectful behavior, follow instructions from staff, remain seated unless directed, refrain from disruptive actions, and dress appropriately.
PROHIBITED BEHAVIORS
Disorderly conduct, interrupting speakers, unsafe behavior, bringing prohibited items, or failing to comply with staff directives are strictly prohibited.
- Disorderly or disruptive conduct
- Interruption or interference with speakers, program flow, or other graduates
- Aggressive, unsafe, or threatening behavior
- Bringing prohibited items such as air horns, noisemakers, balloons, signs/flags, confetti, weapons, or other disruptive materials inside the venue
- Failure to follow instructions from event staff or law enforcement
CONSEQUENCES
Consequences for violating conduct expectations may include removal from the ceremony, transcript holds, and disciplinary sanctions per the code of student conduct.
STATEMENT OF ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
By participating in Commencement, graduates acknowledge and agree to abide by all expectations and consequences outlined in this document.
