The Strategic Plan for Morgan State University

Welcome to the web site for Growing the Future, Leading the World: the Strategic Plan for Morgan State University (2011 - 2021). Dr. David Wilson, President of Morgan State University, believes that a comprehensive and substantive strategic plan is not possible without an open, inclusive, and transparent strategic planning process. With these ideas in mind, the purpose of this web site is to share information about the how the Strategic Plan at Morgan was developed.

President Wilson articulated an emerging vision for Morgan focused on urban sustainability and applied research. He charged the university community to focus on intractable challenges facing Baltimore City, and other urban centers across the nation and around the globe. The goal was to develop a strategic plan that identified goals and objectives to elevate Morgan's current Carnegie classification from DRU: Doctoral/Research University to DRU/H: Research University (high research activity).

Based on feedback from numerous stakeholders, the Strategic Plan Steering Committee developed A Proposed Blueprint for the 2011-2021 Strategic Plan. A Calendar of Events and proposed strategic planning activities were also prepared. After reviewing the proposed blueprint, the Steering Committee invited feedback from numerous constituent groups. The final Strategic Plan was then presented to the various shared governance groups, and ultimately, to the Morgan State University Board of Regents, where it was unanimously approved.

Morgan's current mission is to offer a comprehensive range of undergraduate degree programs and a select set of graduate programs to a broad cross section of students in a supportive environment that encourages research and service towards the needs of underserved communities. The vision embedded in the current plan is for Morgan to be recognized statewide and nationally for demonstrating both student access and student success in higher education. The University will also embrace innovative teaching strategies and conduct cutting-edge research in service to urban centers and underserved populations. Morgan is committed to a set of core values that are deeply rooted in the university's progressive and inclusive history.

Our Vision Forward - Advancing Morgan's Momentum

As we near the close of the ten-year milestone of this current strategic plan, Morgan celebrates phenomenal growth and advancement meeting many of the goals and objectives outlined above. In our concerted effort and unified commitment to meeting the critical mission of this institution of higher education, President Wilson and his executive team have begun the exacting process of developing the next 10-year strategic plan (2020-2030) for Morgan, building upon the momentum achieved during the previous decade and on the merits of its strategic plan.
